Dear Families,
Our long-awaited window
replacement project will soon begin!
We will be attempting to keep
disruptions to students and our community at a minimum, but we will certainly
appreciate your support and patience over the next few weeks.
Construction begins at the west
side (primary tarmac area) of the school on Monday, November 26th.
Equipment being used by the construction team will be fully fenced off from
students. Throughout this week, the junior basketball courts will be out of
bounds, and large areas of the primary tarmac will also be inaccessible.
At times, we may need to divert students to enter through a different set of
doors. We may also have to temporarily relocate teachers and students to
accommodate the construction. We will continue to have full supervision of
students at the morning bell and will also have supervision during construction
at the end of the day.
Once the windows on the west
side of the school are replaced, construction will move to the south side (parking
lot) of the school (around December 3-7). During this time, the
Kindergarten yard will be inaccessible. Kindergarten students will enter
and exit through the junior doors, and be supervised by staff. Outdoor
time will be scheduled in the other Kindergarten yard, and the Kindergarten
class will have access to the gym for movement and activity at recess time.
Please rest assured that student
safety will be a priority throughout the construction process. For
example, all members of the construction team will have to sign in at the
office each day and will have to wear visitor tags all day, every day.
Staff have been advised to approach any adults in the hall and ask for
identification.
Finally, we will have several
large bins placed at the west end of the parking lot, starting as early as
tomorrow (Wednesday, November 21). Approximately 3-6 parking spots may be
taken up by these bins.
As the construction moves
forward, we will continue to communicate with you, and update you on timelines
and work. Should you have any questions about the window replacements,
please do not hesitate to contact the office.
