June 27, 2018.

Dear Families,

We would like to thank all the students, families and our hard working, committed staff who have made this year at Westminster P.S. such a rewarding one.  On behalf of the school, we would like to also say a special thank you to our School Council for their continued support and encouragement of our children and the school.

To our graduates, best wishes as you head off to your secondary schools.  You have contributed greatly to our school and you will always be a part of the Westminster Public School family.  To the members of our community who are moving, thank you for your contributions to the school and best wishes in your new community.

June is a time for good byes – Ms. Beckles, Ms. Cilia, Mr. Hainschwang, Mrs. Moliterni, Ms. Sentheyval, and Ms. Shani will be leaving Westminster P.S.  We wish them the best of luck in their new schools.  You will all be greatly missed.  Remember, once a Wildcat, always a Wildcat!

The 2018-2019 school year begins on Tuesday, September 4, 2018.  Please be advised that classes begin at 8:35 a.m. sharp, our lunch hour will remain to be 12:15 – 1:15 and the scheduled end time is 2:55 p.m. for all grades.  For the first day please ensure that your child has a lunch and healthy snacks.

As we wrap up this school year we are busy planning a successful start for September 2018.  We are working with a tentative school organization (see over). On the first day of school, our grade 1 to 8 teachers will greet students at the rear of the school where teachers will be holding signs with grades on it.  Families can speak with the appropriate teacher to find out what classroom their child will be in.

On September 4th, our K2 (senior kindergarten) students will proceed to the Kindergarten yards where they will be met by the Kindergarten educator teams.  Our K1 (junior kindergarten) students will come to school just for the afternoon on Tuesday, September 4th.   Our newest learners are to come to the gym at 1:15 p.m. where they will be meet their educators.   K1 students resume a regular school schedule starting Wednesday, September 5th.

As per Ministry guidelines, class/school reorganization takes place at the end of September once our enrollment is finalized.  Please understand there will be no changes made to class placements before that date.  At this point in time, hiring of staff for the 2018-2019 school year has not yet been completed so teacher names cannot be shared.

In closing, I would like to wish all of our students and their parents/guardians an enjoyable and safe summer! See you on September 4, 2018.

Sincerely,

Melissa Murray
Principal

January 1 marks the New Year in the Gregorian calendar, and is celebrated by many communities world-wide.
Korean New Year was originally a lunar festival, called Son-nal, held at the beginning of the second new moon after the winter solstice (December 21 or 22). Nowadays, New Year's is often celebrated on the solar New Year, January 1st. Many Korean families use this day to honor ancestors, have special food, and play traditional games.
Oshogatsu (January 1-3) is an important festival for many Japanese people. Some gather with friends and families to say good-bye to the old year at forgetting parties. They also say hello to the New Year. Many Japanese, some of whom practice Shintoism, welcome in the New Year with prayers for renewal of hearts, good health, and prosperity.
In North America, January 1 has become a day for Buddhists of all schools to attend a special service in the local temple.
For many people, New Year's Eve is a secular holiday and has become an occasion for l…
