Miraj-un-Nabi
This year, April 13th, is an important day for those practicing the Islamic faith. Muslims believe that Miraj-un-Nabi marks the day when Prophet Muhammad ascended to heaven following his night journey to Jerusalem from Mecca. The story of Prophet Muhammad's ascension states that the angel Gabriel gave the prophet a wonderful winged horse named Buraq to take him to heaven where it was revealed to him that he should pray daily.
On this day, many Muslims choose to reflect upon the life of Prophet Muhammad and the qualities that made him an exemplary practitioner of the Islamic faith. In doing so, they commit themselves to emulating these qualities within their own lives.
We join you in recognizing Miraj-un-Nabi as a day of personal and religious significance in the lives of staff, students and community members who practice Islam.
