School Council Corner October

We were happy to see parents out to our School Council meeting last week. Much information was presented about school initiatives by our principal and teacher representatives. Parents were able to ask questions and hear how they could contribute to our school and their child's education.

School Council elections were held and we are pleased to announce that our executive for the 2016-2017 year is:

Chair:           Ellen Crackower
Treasurer:    Alice Ko
Secretary:    Brandi Sherman

We also had parents sign up for several committees to help on different projects throughout the year. We always need more help to make things happen smoothly. If you are interested in helping with one of these committees, or have any other ideas to support the school, please send Ellen a quick email at  ellen@eigenmachtcrackower.com

Committees included:
  • Community Outreach
  • Parent Outreach
  • Fundraising
  • Spirit Wear
  • Hot Lunches
  • Grants
Idea's for fundraising this year included creating a Family Recipe Book with family friendly recipe contributions from Westminster students and families. Contact us if you'd like to help with this initiative and stay tuned for more information about purchasing a copy for your recipe library. We will also be bringing back Spirit Wear by popular demand so stay tuned for more about that as well!

FAMILY AUTUMN BALL: As you know our first Community Outreach event is the Family Autumn Ball this Thursday, October 27th at 6-8.  We hope you can all join us and participate in this fun annual event to support our school and community.  Entrance fee is $2 at the door unless you've pre-ordered a dinner package. DJ music, dancing and glow in the dark fun will be had by all!

An engaged and active parent community through the work of our School Council is what makes Westminster a strong community school. Please help in whatever way you can.

Thank you!
Your School Council

Next Meeting: November 30th, 2016

January 1 marks the New Year in the Gregorian calendar, and is celebrated by many communities world-wide.
Korean New Year was originally a lunar festival, called Son-nal, held at the beginning of the second new moon after the winter solstice (December 21 or 22). Nowadays, New Year's is often celebrated on the solar New Year, January 1st. Many Korean families use this day to honor ancestors, have special food, and play traditional games.
Oshogatsu (January 1-3) is an important festival for many Japanese people. Some gather with friends and families to say good-bye to the old year at forgetting parties. They also say hello to the New Year. Many Japanese, some of whom practice Shintoism, welcome in the New Year with prayers for renewal of hearts, good health, and prosperity.
In North America, January 1 has become a day for Buddhists of all schools to attend a special service in the local temple.
For many people, New Year's Eve is a secular holiday and has become an occasion for l…

Booking Student-Led Conferences on EDSBY

Friday, November 2nd, 2018

Dear Parents / Guardians:
Westminster PS is pleased to announce that we will be using an online process through Edsby to manage our Parent Teacher Interviews/Student Led Conferences scheduled for Nov 22 & 23, 2018.
Edsby is an intuitive, cloud-based platform that will allow families to easily reserve times to meet with their child’s teachers. YRDSB in partnership with Edsby have created a secure platform that protects the privacy of information for our YRDSB families.
Families will need to create an Edsby account to access the online appointment scheduler for their child’s teachers for Student Led Conferences. Only families who create an Edsby account prior to the schedule being opened on November 7th will have access. For help signing up for Parent-Teacher interviews/Student Led Conferences, please visit http://bit.ly/ptifamily.
If you require assistance in setting up your Edsby account, or have any questions about the booking process, please contact our ma…
