Saidat Bullying Prevention Workshop November 1st

We're excited to be hosting The Saidat Show on November 1st! Saidat has a dynamic presentation style in which she promotes messages of bullying prevention, having a growth mindset and the importance of kindness towards others.  She engages students young and older with an energetic presentation and interactive hip hop workshop that includes drama, dance and music to get her message across- a perfect kick off to our bullying prevention and awareness month.
This performance is included in our Arts and Athletics Package and promotes our work towards the social and emotional well-being of all our students.  It also adds to our Drama, Dance and Music curriculum through the use of hip hop energizers and collaboration.  This is an exciting show that will complement the lessons our teachers are sharing with their students on mental health and having a growth mindset.  Together we are teaching our children to Care,Share and Give

Why Orange and Black?

Question: Did you ever wonder why the traditional colours of Fall and Halloween are orangeand black??
Answer: Orange represents the harvest in the fall and black represents the darkness of the approaching winter. now you know... Remember Spirit Day at WPS is Monday, October 31st! Happy Halloween!!!

Students are encouraged to wear orange and black or a costume. As not all our community celebrate Halloween, we hope that a colour spirit day is inclusive for all to have fun for the season.

Regular instructional programming will continue, however, the primary division Grade K-3 will be hosting a short parade through the school in the spirit of fun for Halloween and the fall season..

Character Assembly "Respect" October 27th 1:30 p.m.

The character trait that we are focussing on for October is "Respect". Demonstrating this trait in life is essential for our children and ourselves - young and old alike. Showing respect for others, our environment and ourselves is what will make our world a better place.

We do this by teaching our children the importance of respecting each other and treating each other with kindness and courtesy.  We can only teach our children this by modelling it ourselves.

Our assembly will be hosted by our youngest students. Ms Schwartz/Rosenfarb's and Ms Sevel/Piso's Kindergarten classes. You are welcome to join us at our Character Assembly on October 27th at 1:30 p.m. Thank you.

School Council Corner October

We were happy to see parents out to our School Council meeting last week. Much information was presented about school initiatives by our principal and teacher representatives. Parents were able to ask questions and hear how they could contribute to our school and their child's education.
School Council elections were held and we are pleased to announce that our executive for the 2016-2017 year is:
Chair:           Ellen Crackower Treasurer:    Alice Ko Secretary:    Brandi Sherman
We also had parents sign up for several committees to help on different projects throughout the year. We always need more help to make things happen smoothly. If you are interested in helping with one of these committees, or have any other ideas to support the school, please send Ellen a quick email at

Local Author's Visit

We are excited to be welcoming children's author Tamara Hecht to our school on October 24th.Tamara is a former Westminster graduate and we are happy that she has come back to share her journey and her love for reading and writing with our students.

Tamara has published her first two books Welcome to Monsterville  and The Music Room.

Welcome to Monsterville is the story of Jen, a twelve-year-old girl who moves with her parents to the all-monster town of Monsterville. Jen befriends a young ghost named Cal, who takes it upon himself to help her adapt to monster life. Unfortunately, Cal and the other young monsters are a little misguided when it comes to helping, so Jen gets totally lost in a mess of monster misunderstandings. The moral of the story is to be true to yourself.

We hope that Tamara's story as an aspiring author will inspire our students to think about their own writing potential. Thank you Tamara for volunteering your time to visit our school and speak to our student…

Unexpected day at WPS!

We had an unexpected day on Friday, October 21st at Westminster! Early in the morning we were informed that a water main had burst just outside our school cutting off water to the building. This meant that we could not use the facilities. To ensure the well-being of our students and staff we needed to evacuate to a nearby school for the day. We were bussed to Brownridge PS.  Thanks goes to Brownridge Principal Ms Mida and her staff for accommodating and welcoming us so well.

We want to thank our community for your flexibility and cooperation and to those who were able to keep your children home while we worked through these unusual circumstances. Special thanks to our Westminster staff for supporting those students who came to school and enjoyed the surprise field trip to Brownridge!

The water main has now been repaired and all will be back to normal Monday, October 24th.

Wishing you all a good weekend!
