Letter to Parents and Guardians about ETFO Job Sanctions

October 26, 2015

Dear elementary school students, parents and guardians,

This letter is to provide you with an update regarding the escalation of job sanctions by the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO).

In addition to the job sanctions referenced in my previous letters, ETFO provincial has announced that, beginning on Wednesday, October 28, teachers will not participate in voluntary or extra-curricular activities. As a result, any voluntary activities currently supervised by teachers will cease on October 28. Information regarding specific activities will be forthcoming from your school as required.

Once again, it is important to note that the job actions are a result of the bargaining process at the provincial level, and union members are required to follow the direction of their provincial federations/unions.

You can find updates and information about labour issues on the Board website: You may also follow our Twitter account for more immediate updates: @yrdsb.

We recognize this situation is difficult and disappointing for everyone involved and thank you for your continued patience. Your child’s safety remains our first priority.

They also say hello to the New Year. Many Japanese, some of whom practice Shintoism, welcome in the New Year with prayers for renewal of hearts, good health, and prosperity. In North America, January 1 has become a day for Buddhists of all schools to attend a special service in the local temple. For many people, New Year's Eve is a secular holiday and has become an occasion fo
