We are looking forward to our last Character Assembly of the year tomorrow at 9:15 a.m. Thank you to Mr. Clark's 2/3 class for hosting this assembly. Parents and family members are welcome to attend. The character trait for this month is "Optimism". Throughout the year we have been explicitly teaching our students to have a growth mindset and with this mindset optimism goes hand and hand. We maintain our optimism when we learn new things without becoming discouraged. Being optimistic means we believe in ourselves and our ability to learn, grow and be happy. That's a fantastic mentality to have! Thanks to all our students and staff who demonstrate this character trait every day and congratulations to those who will be receiving recognition tomorrow.
On behalf of all our staff I wanted to thank our School Council for the yummy Staff Appreciation Luncheon you prepared for us. Your kindness and thoughtfulness was very much appreciated especially at this busy time of the year. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the WPS School Council for all your efforts to build our community outreach this year. I think that all the events this year were wonderfully successful and enhanced our school community immeasurably. Edna and Ellen have done an amazing job as our Co-Chairs and everyone else in the various committees have contributed much of their time and effort. Thank you!I look forward to continuing our partnership next year as together we make Westminster an incredible community school for all our students and families. I encourage all parents and guardians to consider joining us at School Council next year to hear and learn about your children's education and provide your own input to benefit our children. We look …
We're pleased to have been able to reschedule the field trip to Kortright Conservation Centre for our students in grades 4-6 to Monday, June 22. I am writing to provide you with a further update regarding your child’s end of year marks. Our teachers are professionals who have supported your child’s achievement and well-being throughout the year. Recently, our teachers have dedicated time and effort to prepare marks for your child. While they are bound by the ETFO provincial strike mandate to not complete report cards, we appreciate that mark information is important to you.
As a result, beginning August 31, 2015, York Region District School Board elementary school Principals and Vice-Principals will provide a mark summary for those parents who wish to receive it. As of August 31, you may visit your child’s school to receive a summary of the marks submitted by teachers at the end of this school year.
The mark summary does not replace the end of year report card and is not an official transcript. The promotion/grade placement letter, which you will receive on June 22, 2015, is the official end of year re…

We are proud to announce that Westminster has earned a SILVER placement in its Eco School certification this year. This is our first year to have applied to be credited as an Eco School and we are proud to have achieved a silver medal for our efforts. Thanks goes to our incredible student Eco Committee and teacher leaders who have worked hard to educate and encourage our school be more environmentally responsible. Initiatives such as recycling, boomerang lunches and electricity conservation has made a huge impact on our school. Thanks also to our parent/guardians who have supported our efforts and learned about environmental awareness along with our students. We will be continuing these great initiatives and more next year! Keep up the great work over the summer.

We are excited that the time for our Grade 8 Graduation Ceremonies has arrived. Our Grade 8 students will be graduating onto high school at the end of this year and we are celebrating their hard work and success at our graduation ceremony tomorrow. Parents, guardians, family members and friends are welcome to come and see our graduates cross the stage to receive their elementary diploma. This right of passage is one of many that these students will encounter in their educational lives but it is a special one because it marks the beginning of their journey towards adulthood. We are proud of each and every one of our students and wish them well as they move forward to continue their educational career. Good luck Wildcats! Come back and visit us!

On Monday, June 8th at 8:20 a.m. we will be having a lovely breakfast tea to honour all our wonderful volunteers. The parents, guardians, family and community members who volunteer their time to support our school are heros in the eyes of our children. It is your input that makes a school a community. In this way, we can see school and home working with a common goal to help raise and educate our next generation of happy and healthy children.
Your efforts to help wherever you can are what makes the difference to making a successful school. Thank you!

Our Grade 7/8 students are excited about going on their end of the year trip to Seneca Outdoor Centre in King City. This beautiful property has many exciting activities that they can try like zip lining, kayaking and archery. The energizing activities planned build on the team approach that this close-knit group of students has been demonstrating all year. As our group of Grade 8s prepare for their fast-approaching graduation ceremonies on June 15th, we hope they will enjoy sharing this day of new challenges and fun with their classmates.
Have fun Wildcats!
